Christchurch House

Chelsea, London

The uncompromisingly contemporary architecture of this house is positioned into the space between two existing structures, generating a stark contrast between historic and new elements. The material pallet reinforces the modern form with a warm richness articulated in golden bronze, enveloping the entrance and piercing into the cubic architecture with a delicate strength. The project’s defining characteristic is the simple cascade of geometric forms expressed vertically within a dramatic triple height space puncturing deep into the basement core. This distinct volume enables natural light to flood down to the interior architecture and provides the ability to utilise natural cooling and ventilation throughout the floor plates.
